Quantum Counting: Algorithm and Error Distribution

چکیده
Counting is one of the most basic procedures in mathematics and statistics. In statistics literature it is usually done via the proportion estimation method. In this article we manifest a radically different counting procedure first proposed in the late 1990’s based on the techniques of quantum computation. It combines two major tools in quantum computation, quantum Fourier transform and quantum amplitude amplification, and shares similar structure to the quantum part of the celebrated Shor’s factoring algorithm. We present complete details of this quantum counting algorithm and the analysis of its error distribution. Comparing it with the conventional proportion estimation method, we demonstrate that this quantum approach achieves much faster convergence rate than the classical approach.

On exact counting and quasi-quantum complexity
We present characterisations of “exact” gap-definable classes, in terms of indeterministic models of computation which slightly modify the standard model of quantum computation. This follows on work of Aaronson [1], who shows that the counting class PP can be characterised in terms of bounded-error “quantum” algorithms which use invertible (and possibly non-unitary) transformations, or postsele...
متن کاملA Quantum Time-Space Lower Bound for the Counting Hierarchy
We obtain the first nontrivial time-space lower bound for quantum algorithms solving problems related to satisfiability. Our bound applies to MajSAT and MajMajSAT, which are complete problems for the first and second levels of the counting hierarchy, respectively. We prove that for every real d and every positive real ǫ there exists a real c > 1 such that either: • MajMajSAT does not have a qua...
متن کاملQuantum error correction of continuous-variable states against Gaussian noise
Continuous-variable quantum information protocols use quantum operations and measurements acting on states with continuous eigenvalue spectra to perform quantum information tasks such as quantum teleportation, quantum key distribution, and quantum processing [1]. An attraction of continuous-variable protocols is that many require only Gaussian states, operations, and measurements [2]—all of whi...
متن کاملThe 4-error linear complexity distribution for $2^n$-periodic binary sequences
By using the sieve method of combinatorics, we study k-error linear complexity distribution of 2-periodic binary sequences based on Games-Chan algorithm. For k = 4, 5, the complete counting functions on the k-error linear complexity of 2-periodic balanced binary sequences (with linear complexity less than 2) are presented. As a consequence of the result, the complete counting functions on the 4...
متن کاملA Quantum Evolutionary Algorithm for the Vehicle Routing Problem with Single-sided Time Window Setting
Customer service level is of prime importance in today competitive world and has various dimensions with delivery quality being one of the most important ones. Delivery quality has several parameters such as deliver time window options, time window size, etc. In this paper we focus on one of these parameters, namely time window setting. It has a direct impact upon customer satisfaction and busi...
